TAMS

On 1 September, PSA HNN introduced the Truck Appointment Management System (TAMS) on its container terminals in Antwerp. Until the beginning of 2010 the system can be used on a voluntary basis. After the introduction phase PSA HNN is looking to generalize the use of the system for all truck visits as of early 2010.

TAMS is a software application which enables the pre-notification of truck visits for PSA HNN terminals and complements similar applications already in use on PSA HNN terminals for vessels, barges and trains.

It is thus possible to execute a remote administrative check like verifying a booking for example. At the moment each truck driver needs to perform this check at the terminal before picking up or dropping off a container.

PSA HNN has the ambition to completely eliminate dead freight, sparing trucking companies useless and costly trips to the terminal when a container has not arrived yet and can not be picked up. PSA HNN offers two communication channels to this means: a website and electronic communication (EDI/XML).

In order to handle and controle the influx of trucks, PSA HNN will introduce time slots later on in 2010. On the one hand TAMS will enable trucking companies to make a reservation for a truck visit, reducing the waiting time at the gate in and ensuring a swift handling on the terminal. On the other hand TAMS allows the terminal operator to optimize the yard planning.
